Types of Roofing Material

Choosing the right roofing material for you home is an extremely important decision. Different materials have different life expectancy, storm ratings, costs, and curb appeal. Choosing the right roofing material is almost as important as the Fort Collins roofing company that installs it! Take your time with your decision and look at the different materials you can choose from.

Composite/Asphalt Shingles: This is the most common type of roofing material in the United States. It is made from fiberglass, asphalt and mineral granules. Shingles tend to be the cheapest (attractive) residential roofing material and need replacement  every 20-30 years unless there is unforeseen storm damage.

Rolled Roofing: This is not very common on residential homes. Rolled roofing is not very attractive and tends to be seen more often on commercial buildings. Rolled materials are by far the cheapest option for roofing but also the most unattractive. Typically used on no-slope or slightly sloped roofs.

Metal Roofing: Metal roofing is making its way into mainstream residential roofing. It is extremely attractive and gives a modern home an industrial look. This material is also fireproof and insect resistant. It also increases the value of your home substantially. The metal materials tend to be much more expensive but sustainable.
